The Provincial Council of A Coruña launches the 1st Tourism Awards to highlight innovation, quality and sustainability in the sector

The Provincial Council of A Coruña has announced the first edition of the Tourism Awards, in order to recognize the work of people, companies and entities that have made a difference in the tourism sector of the province. The awards seek to highlight initiatives focused on innovation, sustainability and enhancing the authenticity of the territory, fundamental for the development of distinctive and quality tourism.

 

In this first edition, the awards are divided into five categories:

 

  • Best tourism innovation and quality initiative: It will recognize those people, companies or entities that in the last 10 years (since January 2014) have promoted pioneering tourism innovation programs in the province, characterized by their quality and innovative approach.
  • Best social sustainability initiative applied to tourism: This category will reward projects developed in the last decade that promote social sustainability in tourism, such as solidarity initiatives, circular economy or that work in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Best initiative to enhance the authenticity of the territory: To recognize those who have developed actions focused on preserving and enhancing the authenticity and uniqueness of the territory, including measures to improve environmental sustainability.
  • Award for the best emerging tourism project: This category is aimed at people or companies that in the last three years (since January 2021) have stood out with an innovative project that has generated a notable impact in the tourism sector.
  • Award for a lifetime dedicated to tourism: A tribute to those who, throughout their career, have contributed significantly to the development of tourism in the province, standing out for their dedication and contributions in any area of ​​the sector.

 

In addition to these five categories, the jury may award up to two special mentions to people, companies or entities that, without having been formally proposed, have carried out outstanding work in the provincial tourism field.

 

The jury will be made up of experts from the sector and professors of the Tourism degree at the University of A Coruña. Candidacies can be submitted until 2:00 p.m. on October 28 through the Provincial Council’s electronic processing platform. The winners will receive a commemorative award at a gala organized to be held on November 8 at the NH Finisterre.
