Santiago de Compostela will host the first edition of the Galician Cuisine Awards on December 1st, a new competition launched by the Friends of Galician Cuisine Association in conjunction with the A Muiñeira Foundation. The initiative has a clear objective: to recognize those who keep the essence of Galician gastronomy alive, from the most emblematic recipes to new interpretations that respect the character of local products.
The ceremony will take place at the Auditorium of Galicia and will bring together chefs, industry professionals, critics, and representatives from culinary schools. The awards will cover everything from traditional dishes such as octopus, cocido (a Galician stew), and empanadas (a savory pie), to artisanal products like bread and pastries.
One of the highlights will be the “Senlleiros de Galicia” awards, designed to honor establishments and individuals who embody the most authentic spirit of Galician cuisine or who have revived nearly lost recipes.
In addition to recognizing tradition, the awards also look to the future: they will focus on projects that innovate without compromising the identity of Galician cuisine and on the new generation of chefs who are taking the reins in the kitchen.
A jury of more than sixty professionals from the culinary field will be responsible for selecting the finalists and winners, who will be announced during the gala. The initiative is a collaboration between the Xunta de Galicia-Axencia Turismo de Galicia, the A Coruña Provincial Council, and the Santiago de Compostela City Council.
