Portugal hosts actions to promote and commercialize the Galician tourist offer

As part of the international promotion of Tourism in Galicia, the Portuguese market was the subject of two actions, one at the Mundo Abreu fair held in Lisbon and the other in collaboration with Turespaña in the cities of Oporto, Aveiro and Cascais. This promotion was already held in Oporto and will be completed during the rest of the month of March in shopping malls in the other two cities where the tourism department of the Xunta has the opportunity to contact visitors and promote the supply and tourism products of Galicia.
In addition, the Galician tourism offer was also presented in Lisbon, as part of the Mundo Abreu fair, a tourism event organised by the tour operator Viajes Abreu in which the company’s agents and several invited tourist destinations, including Galicia, participate. Viajes Abreu is the main tour operator in Portugal and every year it organises a fair to present the company’s new products and services and some tourist destinations have the opportunity to present their offer to the public at the event.
In this fair, many of the visitors usually buy their holidays attracted by the offers and discounts that are presented at the event. Galicia was present with an area open to the public through which the Galician tourist offer was disseminated, emphasizing the possibilities for this spring and next summer.
First international market for Galicia
The Portuguese market again maintained a very positive performance during 2017 in Galicia, growing overnight stays and the number of passengers staying with about 208,000 passengers and almost 348,000 nights in hotels, the highest figures since 2009. In 2017, the Portuguese market accounted for 16.4% of the total international tourist demand in Galicia – in the hotel sector – and is now the leading foreign market in our region.
