The Entroidos of Vilariño de Conso, Viana do Bolo, and Manzaneda achieve national recognition

  • This recognition represents an important step in their promotion nationally and internationally.

Three of the most iconic carnivals in eastern Ourense have been recognized as Festivals of National Tourist Interest, a milestone that highlights their ancestral roots and their role as symbols of Galician cultural identity. The Secretary of State for Tourism has jointly awarded this distinction to the Entroidos of Vilariño de Conso, Viana do Bolo and Manzaneda, highlighting the uniqueness of their traditional characters, such as the boteiro, the mázcaras, and the folións, key elements of a celebration that has preserved its essence over the centuries.

  • The Entroido as a cultural manifestation

These three municipalities in the Ourense mountains share not only a common cultural heritage, but also a strong desire for collaboration, which has allowed them to jointly promote a solid candidacy. This recognition represents an important step in their promotion nationally and internationally, further reinforcing their protection as a living cultural expression.

The Entroidos (Feast of the Carnival) of eastern Ourense thus join a select group of Galician celebrations with this distinctive seal. In the province of Ourense, until now only Verín held this designation, while Xinzo de Limia has the distinction of Festival of International Tourist Interest. With this new addition, the province strengthens its position as one of the great exponents of traditional carnival in Spain.

This new recognition also reinforces initiatives such as the ViBoMask festival, which has already been working to raise awareness of the value of traditional masquerades both within and outside of Galicia. Now, with this declaration, the Entroidos of Vilariño, Viana, and Manzaneda are rightfully included on the map of the most valuable celebrations in the country.
