In the third edition of its awards, the Provincial Council recognised the work and trajectory of six entities and celebrations in the province.
During the ceremony held on 27 September, World Tourism Day, an award for Sustainable Tourism was also presented.
Coinciding with the celebration of World Tourism Day on 27 September, the Lugo Provincial Council presented its third awards for excellence in tourism and gastronomy, prizes with which the organisation recognises the work carried out by half a dozen groups and initiatives in the province. The name of the winners had been initially approved by the Provincial Tourism Council at the meeting held in early September with the participation, among others, of the president of the Galicia Tourism Cluster, Cesáreo Pardal. The agreement was later ratified by the provincial governing board.
In the category Lugo changes to Lugo Tourism, the awards went to the Neighbourhood Association of Vilachá de Salvadur, for the enhancement of tangible and intangible heritage through activities such as a circular route or the recovery of a castro and the natural landscape; the Bean Route of Lourenzá, promoted by the Terras da Mariña cooperative, the Forno de Tovar, the Pazo de Tovar and Lourenzá Tourism, for helping to raise awareness of this product, which has a Protected Geographical Indication, and the Xosé Soto de Fión Foundation for its project to protect and disseminate both tangible and intangible heritage, on which it has been working for two decades and whose most visible element is the exhibition at the Pazo de Arxeriz Ecomuseum.
Three were also awarded in the category And to eat, Lugo to the Lugo gastronomy: The Regulatory Council of the Protected Designation of Origin San Simón da Costa, in Vilalba, for highlighting the value of San Simón Cheese, a flagship product of Lugo and Galician gastronomy; the Celeiro Hake Skewer Festival, in Viveiro, for extolling the hake fished in a traditional way by local boats through an event that allows many people to know this gastronomic reference of great quality, and the Council of A Fonsagrada for the Butelo Fair, an event to promote and encourage the consumption of local products from the mountains of Lugo, which has been running for 25 years.
In addition, this year, on the occasion of the celebration of the Copa España Creativa – Fórum Lugo 2022, an event hosted by the Lugo Provincial Council, the Turismo Sostible Prize was awarded to the Cabanas das Chousas project for its work in the care and protection of the environment with actions such as the use of biomass boilers, the maintenance of its environment for the prevention of forest fires or the installation of recycling containers.
The president of the Lugo Provincial Council and of the Provincial Tourism Board, José Tomé Roca, presided over the awards ceremony, which was also attended by other authorities such as the mayor of Lugo, Lara Méndez; the sub-delegate of the Government, Isabel Rodríguez, and several members of the Tourism Board.
