  • The president of the Galicia Tourism Cluster participated in the presentation of the agreement between the Associations of Municipal Councils of La Mariña and Ferrolterra for the inclusion of Slow Tourism North of Galicia in ‘Galicia Sustainable Destination’.

Last Thursday, March 14, the plenary hall of the Ourol City Council hosted the presentation of the agreement between the Associations of Municipal Councils of La Mariña and Ferrolterra and the Galician Tourism Cluster for inclusion as a qualifying criterion to join the product club ‘Galicia Sustainable Destination‘  belongs to the Slow Tourism Northern Galicia project.

 

‘Galicia Sustainable Destination’, an initiative of the Galician Tourism Cluster with the collaboration of Turismo de Galicia, was born in 2022 with the aim of integrating the sustainable tourism offer of the community, putting participating companies in contact with tourists interested in an experience committed to local development, to the good use of natural resources and to supporting culture, historical heritage and tradition.

 

The president of the Tourism Cluster, Cesáreo Pardal, thanked Turismo Slow Norte de Galicia for the interest in the product club and highlighted the importance of “joining efforts to move forward together.” In addition, he highlighted the weight that tourism has in achieving the objectives of the 2030 Agenda through the transition towards a way of traveling that is more respectful of nature, society and the local economy.

To be part of ‘Galicia Sustainable Destination’, companies must meet a series of requirements that guarantee their connection with sustainability and that represent a commitment to continuous improvement. With this agreement, and due to the unique characteristics of the establishments attached to Slow Tourism North of Galicia, the companies that form part of the project will be able to integrate directly into ‘Galicia Sustainable Destination’, thus expanding the wide tourist offer that the club.

 

Currently, around 90 companies are part of ‘Galicia Sustainable Destination’, including accommodation, restaurants, travel agencies and providers of complementary tourism offerings that offer more than 150 products of different types.

 

Pardal also highlighted the commitment of the Galician business fabric to sustainability in the broadest sense, and defended the commitment to a sector that takes care of nature and the environment, the circular economy and digitalization, local development and the enhancement of culture, tradition, language, crafts or local products.

 

Representatives of the Mariña and Ferrolterra Commonwealths, the companies that carry out both projects (Slow Tourism and Sustainable Destination) and the host City Council participated in the event held in Ourol.
