Tourism in Galicia promotes eight new lines of aid for the tourism sector amounting to 5 million euros

The measure is aimed at continuing the improvement of infrastructure and tourism in Galicia.
The Galicia Parabéns Awards, those of the Camino, the aids to hire staff in the tourist offices and for festivals of tourist interest complete the call.

Tourism of Galicia has just launched for 2018 eight new lines of aid for the sector worth 5 million euros aimed at tourism in the Community, local authorities and various groups. Among the novelties of the call for proposals is the renovation programme for accommodation establishments, with an investment of 500,000 euros aimed at stimulating, with up to 35% of the cost, the remodelling and modernisation of their facilities, which will increase the quality of the service they provide. Actions to improve accessibility and energy savings in favour of environmental sustainability, among others, will be eligible.
In the private sector, cooperation between small operators will also be encouraged to design and market innovative tourism products together. Its offer must be based on products that differentiate and enrich Galicia as a destination, such as the Pilgrim’s Way to Santiago, nature, spas, wine-gastronomy, sea tourism, the route of camellias, lighthouses and wild beaches, hidden heritage or magical sanctuaries. There are also products aimed at family customers, senior tourists, a range of rainy days, themed products for weekends or focused on the different historical areas.
More collaboration with local authorities
In order to deepen the collaboration with the local administration, Turismo de Galicia extends the funds directed to town halls, associations or geodestinos, among others. The line for infrastructure improvements will increase by 1 million euros to 2.5 million euros. Moreover, whereas until now they came from European funds, they are now converted into own funds.
More than 200 local authorities have benefited from them in the last two years. Now, the eligible concepts are extended, since in addition to signposting and accessibility of resources, it will include actions to beautify accesses, environments, Cultural Interest Goods (BIC) already declared or in the process of stamping and initiatives to enhance tourism.
The support of the town halls to the 117 festivities of Tourist Interest of Galicia, its promotion and diffusion are also part of the new lines of help presented today by Nava Castro. Likewise, subsidies for the 47 municipalities declared tourist municipalities in Galicia, so that they can strengthen the staff of their tourism offices from June to September.
Galicia Parabéns Awards

Finally, this ambitious call for grants, which will be published in the Official Gazette of Galicia (DOG) from 23 January to 2 February, will be completed with the fourth edition of the Camino de Santiago Awards, aimed at local entities, xacobeas associations, SMEs, basic education centres and researchers; and with the second and third edition of the Galicia Parabéns Awards, also addressed to municipalities in recognition of their initiatives for improvement, conservation and sustainable development.
As pointed out by the director of Tourism of Galicia, Nava Castro, with all this funds, it seeks to “make Galicia a better and better destination, more competitive and higher quality. We want to continue to delve deeper into the seasonality of demand and the diversification of our supply, so that all Galician people can experience the economic, social and cultural benefits that tourism activity can bring,”said the director of Tourism.
