Barnacles collectors of Muxía invite to walk along the path of sustainability, development and tourism.

The president of the Cluster, Cesáreo Pardal, took part in the presentation and in the first tour of the Percebe da Barca Route.

It is part of the BeirAtlántica project developed by the Association of Professionals Percebe da Barca.

Sustainability, economic development and tourism converge in the Ruta del Percebe da Barca, an itinerary that has just been presented in an emblematic municipality of the Costa da Morte: Muxía. It is an initiative promoted by the Association of Professionals Percebe da Barca through its BeirAtlántica project and with the collaboration of the Xunta de Galicia, the GALP Costa da Morte and the Muxía municipality.

The aim is to build bridges between the world of the sea and the coastline through a route that highlights the value of the work carried out by the “percebeiros” (barnacle collectors) and the space in which they do it. A series of information panels guide the visitor along this route, accompanied by images and testimonies from the sea professionals themselves, thanks also to the virtual version accessible through the project’s website and the application for mobile devices developed for this purpose.

The launch of the route was held on Wednesday 21 September with the official presentation and an inaugural walk. There was a large group of professionals of the sea headed by the president and the secretary of the association of barnacles collectors of A Barca, Víctor Haz and Santiago Pérez, respectively, as well as the mayor of Muxián, Iago Toba; the manager of the GALP Costa da Morte, Guillermo González; the director of the Parador Costa da Morte, Julio Marcote, the president of the Professional Association of the Tourist Sector Costa da Morte, Pepe Formoso, and the president of the Galicia Tourism Cluster, Cesáreo Pardal. Also present were the photographer Luis Polo, responsible for the graphic part of the project and in charge of acting as a guide on the inaugural walk, and the historian and disseminator Xan Fernández Carrera.
