Galicia joins the Tourism Intelligence System to advance toward a more innovative and competitive destination model

  • The Xunta (Government of Galicia) and SEGITTUR (Security and Tourism Development Agency) seal an agreement that strengthens the use of data and technology in the region’s tourism planning

Galicia takes another step in its transformation as a smart tourism destination with the signing of a collaboration agreement between the Xunta (Government of Galicia) and the State Society for the Management of Tourism Innovation and Technologies (SEGITTUR). With this agreement, the region formally joins the Tourism Intelligence System (TIS), a key tool for strengthening data-driven decision-making and consolidating a more efficient, sustainable, and technologically connected tourism model.

  • The advantages of the agreement for Galicia

With this alliance, Galicia will be able to access the information managed by the system and also contribute data on its tourism activity, thus strengthening knowledge about demand, sector profitability, and visitor flows. In addition, the integration of new technologies applied to destination management will be facilitated.

The protocol also includes the development of a joint work plan focused on promoting the Smart Tourism Destinations (STD) model, as well as training initiatives aimed at the sector. The organization of specialized seminars and workshops will allow this vision to be extended throughout the Galician tourism ecosystem, strengthening the training of professionals.

Representatives from both entities participated in the signing of the agreement, including the Director of Tourism of Galicia, Xosé Merelles; the Director of the Agency for Technological Modernization of Galicia, Julián Cerviño; and the President of SEGITTUR, Enrique Martínez. All agreed that this step will contribute to strengthening planning, improving the competitiveness of the sector, and elevating the quality of the experience for both visitors and residents.
