The Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Román Rodríguez, chaired the meeting of this body in which the latest statistics and plans set in motion to meet the challenge of Xacobeo 2021 were reviewed.

The Governing Council of the Galician Tourism Agency opened its participation and invited representatives of the most representative business organizations of the private tourism sector, members of the Galician Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (Fegamp) and representatives of the four provincial councils.

The aim of this meeting was to tackle the major challenges on the horizon in the field of tourism: the celebration of the next Holy Year and delve into the Galician model. Along these lines, Román Rodríguez, accompanied by the director of the Galician Tourism Agency, Nava Castro, and the commissioner of Xacobeo 21, Cecilia Pereira, reviewed with the agents involved the data obtained in the tourism sector and the latest plans launched by the Ministry.

Regarding the next Holy Year, the holder of Culture and Tourism highlighted the important effort of the Xunta to achieve a Xacobeo “of which all Galicians should feel part. To achieve this, the regional administration is involving in its planning to all institutions, entities and citizens of Galicia “to be able to achieve a great common project.

The Xunta de Galicia also wants to join the efforts of the agents involved to face the challenge of consolidating a sustainable and quality tourism model for our Community. “We want a model that leads us to build the best Galicia to visit and that this is also the best Galicia to live,” said the Minister of Culture and Tourism. Then he explained the current dynamics of tourism and stressed that although they are good “we can not conform. That is why he invited those present at the session of the Governing Council “to continue working together so that tourists find in our land a rich and diverse offer that extends throughout the year.
