Cultural, urban and gastronomic tourism merge in the ‘Tapas for Galicia’ contest

  • Seven chefs from seven Galician cities will compete for the title of Best Tapas Chef 2024.

On July 9, Santiago de Compostela will be the scene of a gastronomic competition that will bring together seven outstanding chefs from the seven main Galician cities. This gala, titled “Best Tapas Chef in Galicia 2024”, will take place at the Hotel Monumento San Francisco and is part of an initiative by Tourism of Galicia to promote urban and gastronomic tourism in the region.

In its eighth edition, this event promises to show the richness and diversity of Galician cuisine through a series of innovative and delicious tapas. Each of the participating chefs has been selected for winning the tapas competition in their respective city, which guarantees a high level of culinary competition and creativity.

The route proposed by this gala not only highlights the culinary skill of the chefs, but also offers a journey through the Galician geography, starting in Santiago de Compostela and culminating in Pontevedra. This route symbolizes a cultural and gastronomic journey that highlights the quality local products that define Galician cuisine.

Among the participants are:

  • Álvaro Pérez Blanco from ArteSana Gastrobar (Santiago de Compostela) with the cover “We are like goats.”
  • Manu Triay from Taberna Triay (A Coruña) with “Donete recheo de cocido”.
  • Adrián Pérez de Sinxelo (Ferrol) with “Recordos da miña nenez”.
  • Bret Fernández from Prebe by Bret (Lugo) with “Xurel Black Coupage”.
  • Gabi Conde from Restaurante Portovello (Ourense) with “A Terma”.
  • Kevin Carreño from Nikko Espacio Gastronomic (Vigo) with “Nigiri de crokketa de carabinero”.
  • Daniel Carramal from Loaira Xantar (Pontevedra) with “Trasmallos de neboeiro”.

The gala will offer two prizes: one awarded by a professional jury that will evaluate the technical complexity, creativity, presentation and flavor of each tapa; and another decided by a popular jury through a televoting system.

This event not only celebrates culinary excellence, but also seeks to promote cultural and local tourism in Galicia, creating synergies between companies in the sector, associations and institutions. Attendees will be able to enjoy a unique gastronomic experience that combines tradition and modernity, highlighting the best of Galician cuisine.
