The 18th edition of Xantar, to be held in Ourense from the 1st to the 5th of February was presented at FITUR at a ceremony attended by public and private representatives from Spain and Portugal, from Panama (invited country in this edition), also from Mexico And Argentina who already participated as guests and have wanted to remain linked to the project. The first intervention of this presentation was the responsibility of the Director of Tourism of Galicia, Nava Castro, who highlighted the value of Xantar as “the best showcase of the enormous potential of Galicia as an enogastronomic destination” and noted the “seasonal nature of gastronomy in The Galician tourist offer “.
Also involved in the presentation of Xantar 2017, the Turespaña deputy director, Rafael Chamorro, who indicated that “Spain received 75 million tourists last year. The number has grown but also the profitability. We are looking for a tourist that is increasingly profitable and that makes more investment, and that is the gastronomic. ” The vice president of the Diputación de Ourense, Jorge Pumar, as the mayor of Ourense, Jesús Vázquez, agreed to highlight the richness of gastronomic offer both in the province and its capital. Representing Portugal, the directors of the Tourism Authority of Porto and Norte and Turismo dos Açores attended. Representing the guest country, the ambassador of Panama in Spain, María de las Mercedes de la Guardia, invited to discover in Xantar the “fusion gastronomy” of this country.
The presentation of the next edition of Xantar was given by the director of the show, Alejandro Rubín, who defined the participation in this event as “an enogastronomic experience that allows to travel the world extending each year new international destinations.” Rubin once again highlighted public-private cooperation as part of Xantar’s success.

With the same objective of promoting a destination through its gastronomy, one of the novelties of this edition will be the creation of the “1st Workshop of Gastronomic Tourism” in which tour operators will attend presentations and B2B meetings with representatives of the different destinations Gastronomic present in the hall.
