Conceived within the framework of the Strategic Tourism Plan promoted by the Pontevedra County Council, the Provincial Tourism Board was created with the aim of being a meeting point for public and personal administrations in the sector to agree on actions that serve to enhance the value of the province’s tourism sector. In this sense, the president of the Provincial Council, Carmela Silva, recalled the importance of this sector in the province, which already accounts for 11% of Galician GDP.
The bureau, which will meet at least twice a year, has thus been made up of a total of 20 people, including mayors and mayors of municipalities catalogued as of tourist interest, supramunicipal entities, representatives of the sector and tourism training organizations. These meetings, as reported by Silva, will study the needs of the sector, the implementation of tourism products aimed at seasonalizing demand or, among other issues, the promotion actions to be implemented.
The Provincial Board of Tourism will be composed of the president of the Provincial Council and 3 representatives of the provincial institution (the deputy delegate of Tourism, the head of tourism service and a person with a technical profile); 1 person representing Tourism of Galicia and another from the Secretariat of Tourism of the State; 7 people belonging to the public sector of the province and 1 person from each city council that exceeds 50.000 inhabitants (Vigo and Pontevedra); there will also be two people representing the municipalities of tourist interest in the province and another of the destinations affiliated to SICTED. Of the supramunicipal entities, there will be two persons (1 of the local participatory action groups in the fishing sector and another of entities with management and tourist promotion functions such as the associations); in addition to three representatives from the academic field (Master of Tourism of the University of Vigo, Manuel Antonio CIPF and Carlos Orozoa IPPC), another from the Vigo Airport and three from the private tourism sector Tourism Cluster, Feprohos and the Rías Baixas Wine Route.
