With almost 260,000 travelers and 600,000 overnight stays, the national traveler, which represents 90% of the total, allowed the fall in the whole of Galician territory not to be as brutal as in the whole of the State, remaining as the fifth community that received more tourists. Undoubtedly, the lower dependence on foreign tourism played in this occasion in favor of the Galician tourist sector, which in July endured better the fall in the number of travelers and overnight stays.

The behavior by province was also uneven, with a more pronounced fall in Lugo (-63%) and A Coruña (-53%) compared to Pontevedra (-47%) and Ourense (-42%). According to the data of the National Institute of Statistics (INE), 1,438 establishments opened, which means 85% of the usual hotel places of this month

Galician hotel establishments received a total of 257,870 tourists in the seventh month of the year, making Galicia the fifth largest community in terms of volume. These travelers made nearly 600,000 overnight stays, specifically 598,513. At the market level, local tourism continues to be more relevant to tourism in Galicia, as the national traveler gains presence compared to the international traveler, who is more affected by mobility restrictions. Specifically, the weight of domestic tourism has increased by eight points, while national tourism has risen by three points. International tourism loses 11 points.

Price stability
At the same time, the INE allows this month to analyze some economic parameters that indicate that hotel rates fell slightly this month, 0.7% in particular, which denotes some stability, with average prices that remain, in broad strokes, similar to those of July 2019 despite the health situation resulting from the covid-19.

Regarding these data, the acting Regional Minister of Culture and Tourism, Román Rodríguez, highlighted the “enormous effort” that the Galician tourism sector is making this summer to recover the activity. Despite the fact that, as he pointed out, “we would all like the data to be different”, he highlighted the work of the professionals of this industry to achieve to place the Community 22 points above the Spanish average, in the most difficult moment in memory, after several years with an outstanding qualitative growth.
