Non-hotel establishments grew by 7.6% in the number of passengers, three points more than hotels

The month of May also showed positive data for non-hotel accommodation in Galicia, especially for rural tourism, which again marked the largest increase in the number of passengers staying in the fifth month of the year with a growth of 11.6% in visitors and 8% more overnight stays compared to the same month last year.

Overall, non-hotel establishments increased by 7.6% in May, to which tourist apartments also contributed, with 5.5% more passengers. This trend also extends to hotels, with 4% more tourists and 3% more nights.
The national tourism in the fifth month of the year represented 65.7% of the demand, while foreigners accounted for 34.3%, above the 33% mark contemplated in the Tourism Strategy of Galicia 2020, the document agreed upon is more than a year by the Xunta and the private sector and defines Galicia as a quiet destination that seeks to differentiate itself through the enhancement of its own resources with excellence and sustainability as guides.
With these data, disseminated by the National Statistics Institute (INE), Galicia exceeds 1.3 million travellers and 2.5 million overnight stays in the first five months of the year.
Summer season
The data from May allows us to make a positive balance after a spring with 80% more rainfall that made it the rainiest since 1961. Galicia thus faces the summer season with the aim of deepening the different quality parameters, also diversifying the flows and extending the benefits of tourism throughout the territory.
