Led by the Tourism Agency of Galicia that has entrusted its writing in the Cluster of Tourism Of Galicia, the Tourism Strategy of Galicia sets the framework for tourism in the period 2017-2020, taking into account the needs of agents from different areas of the value chain of the Galician tourism sector. The fundamental objective is to consolidate a competitive destination with great strategic value in the Galician economy.
Through a participatory process that involved the entire sector and a strategic analysis, six major conditions were defined necessary for the construction of this tourism model over the territory:
– Promote the Galicia brand as a tourist destination DIFFERENTIATED at a global level. Galicia is a territory with a huge diversity in a small geographic space, which allows us to develop a large number of differentiated and unique tourist products, attractive for the tourist experience (ecotourism, thermal tourism, wine tourism, Camino de Santiago).
– Establish tourism as PRIORITY of the different public and personal agents and establish an INTEGRAL strategy (paying attention to all the territories of Galicia) and INTEGRADORA (establishing interconnections with other sectors in a direct and / or indirect way), DYNAMICS Its correct implementation) and DINAMIZADORA (giving its design to the widest possible spectrum of agents in contact with the sector), in which the lines of action are concretized economically to achieve each objective and in which an evaluation system is established That ensures the correct development of the plan.
The established quantitative indicators that will allow to evaluate and monitor the correct development of the strategy will be: the growth of 21% in the number of tourists to 6 million in the 2020 horizon of which 33% of the total will be foreign tourists. It also aims to improve the profitability of the sector and the expenditure of visitors reaching 60 euros on average per room and 40% of average hotel occupancy while for rural tourism is set the growth by 4.4 points until reaching 20 % Of average occupancy.
The fundamental axes of this new roadmap are to exploit the inherent facials of Galicia as its landscapes, its culture, heritage and historical hulls or the Camino de Santiago, and to achieve the deseasonalization of visits to occur during more weeks of the year And longer days. To this end, the Plan makes an effort to deepen the professionalization of the sector and a commitment to tourism innovation and new technologies.
