Bandera Azul

The Council of Pontevedra has launched a project to boost Network Blue Trails, which integrates the trails that link beaches and marinas with Blue Flag in nine municipalities in the province (Cangas, Bueu, Vigo, A Illa de Arousa, A Guarda, Nigrán, Baiona, Sanxenxo and Portonovo). To this end the provincial institution has given the project of 60,000 euros to develop a first package of concrete actions signage, furniture, maintenance and promotion.

This is just the starting point, as the Provincial Government intends to attend jointly with the municipalities attached to this network to attract European funds to develop medium and long term this project. As announced by the council, the Blue Senderos play an important social function, to be excellent places for the enjoyment of nature-leza and also as core elements for development, health and well-being of the whole society.

Currently, Galicia has 16 blue trails, and eight of them are in the province of Pontevedra (Ponte Caldelas is handling his candidacy to qualify for this distinction in 2016). They are, in particular, the Roteiro of Donón in Cangas do Morrazo, the Path of riverbank and shoreline ‘Road to Beiramar’ de Vigo, the hiking trail Cabo Udra in Bueu, the Senda Perimeter Bao-Xastelas in A Illa de Arousa, the Senda Litoral de a Guarda, the Sendero Litoral Dune Ecosystem-Panxón in Playa America Nigrán, Baiona Coastal path and the path Litoral Sanxenxo – Portonovo, who joined the network in 2015.

Along these routes, in the rest of Galicia there are eight Senderos Blue, four in the province of A Coruña and four in Lugo. Coruñeses are the Ortigueira Estuary coastline Edge, the Path of A Laracha Beach, the Coastal Path Coastal Path Arteixo and Boiro; while the Blue Trail lucenses are Ruta del Litoral Burelés, the Blue Trail Abrela Beach – Punta Socastro O Vicedo, Route Illa Pancha Lighthouse at Ribadeo As Aceas and Route Paseo Playas de Foz.
