The Rías Baixas Wine Route is in luck after breaking a new record in terms of the number of wine tourists who have chosen one of the wineries of the only Galician wine route certified by the Spanish Wine Routes product club. With more than 115,000 visitors in 2017, 13.3% more than in the previous year, the Galician wine route thus becomes the sixth Wine Route of Spain, with an economic impact of more than 1.6 million euros.
This is clear from the Report on visits to wineries and museums associated with the Wine Routes of Spain presented by ACEVIN which includes both the number of visitors and the economic impact of the 27 itineraries certified by this Product Club. Overall, in 2017 the Spanish Wine Routes registered an overall increase of 18.38% in visitors, which translated into a total of 3,213,267 visits last year.
For the first time, the ACEVIN report breaks down the number of visits by wineries and by museums adhering to the different Wine Routes of Spain. As far as the first group is concerned, Rías Baixas is the sixth itinerary in Spain with the largest number of wine tourists, reaching a total of 110,096 people, 12.73% of them foreigners. It is located in front of Marco de Jerez, Penedés, Ribera del Duero, Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa. In the case of wine museums, there were 5,363 visitors, ranking eighth in this case. Finally, the ACEVIN report analyses the economic impact of the wine tourism sector promoted by the 27 Spanish Wine Routes analysed. Data on the Ruta do Viño Rías Baixas indicate that the average expenditure per visitor to wineries is 15.02 euros, which would mean a total income of 1,653,641.92 euros. To this figure, the economic impact on other tourist sectors in the area could be added.
According to the ACEVIN report, the turnover of the Wine Routes in Spain as a whole is estimated at 67,191,579 euros, 23.89% more than in 2016. The average daily expenditure per enotourist is estimated at 156.6 € and the average stay is 2.54 days, the average total expenditure on the Spanish Wine Routes is almost 400 €.
