Between June and July Turismo de Galicia he conducted an extensive inspection of 112 establishments located along the French route, with special emphasis on the pilgrims’ hostels, in order to ensure the quality of accommodation offered in this itinerary the Jacobean Route.

In total Galicia Tourism Inspection 112 accommodation establishments that led him to raise a total of 52 acts of infringement or requirement. 35 of them by overcapacity and 17 for lack of documentation. The inspection placed special emphasis on the pilgrims’ hostels, 78 in total were inspected in this operation.

As explained from Turismo de Galicia, the objective of carrying out such actions, especially at this time, it is to ensure compliance with the rules on accommodation and thus promote an offer in terms of quality, a key objective of the recently approved regulations on tourist lodges.

In short, it is about getting an increase in the quality of shelters, as tourist accommodation establishments, to make our country attractive as a destination. In this respect, as in all-encompassing management Camino de Santiago, it is critical to collaboration of all stakeholders, including municipalities and other entities to provide accommodation in places intended for that purpose.

Record pilgrims
In far this year 128,969 pilgrims arrived in Galicia, 7.5% more than the even period last year. This positive trend makes forecasts for this year are exceed 262 516 2016 2015 pilgrims, being the busiest French Way, with 65% of all pilgrims who arrived in Compostela in 2015.
