In recent years, circularity has become the clear commitment of key policies and financing tools such as the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, the Paris Agreement on climate change, the European Green Deal, the Circular Economy Action Plan of the EU 2020 or the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. Tourism plays a prominent role as a productive sector and as a driving agent.
For this reason, SEGITTUR updated its Circular Economy Manuals for destinations and tourism SMEs. The presentation ceremony took place last Thursday, June 15, in Sanxenxo.
To prepare the documents, an analysis of secondary sources was carried out, more than 10 interviews with experts from the tourism and sustainability sector, and a participatory application of the proposed methodology to four tourist destinations belonging to the Smart Tourist Destinations Network.
The first two parts of the manuals contemplate the introduction of the concept of circular economy and its link with global and Spanish tourism activity. The third part delves into the development of a circularity roadmap, bringing methodologies to follow, practical examples, work models, and lists of potential actions.
The Good Practices Guide includes 30 case examples of circular economy in destinations, companies and institutions related to waste, mobility, food, energy efficiency, green purchases, useful life extension, resource recovery or circular supplies, among others.
You can download the manuals and the guide through the SEGITTUR website.
