Galicia once again shines on the national tourism scene with the nomination of two of its destinations in the National Geographic Travel Readers Awards 2025. The Rías Baixas compete for the title of “Best beach destination in Spain”, while the Ribeira Sacra competes to be recognized as the “Best rural destination in Spain”.
These nominations highlight the attractiveness and diversity of Galician landscapes, as well as their ability to conquer both national and international travelers.
Rías Baixas
With its beaches with crystal-clear waters, paradisiacal islands such as the Cíes, and a gastronomic offer that highlights seafood and Albariño wines, the Rías Baixas are synonymous with relaxation, natural beauty and hospitality. In this category, they compete with prominent destinations such as the beaches of Cabo de Gata (Almería), Costa Daurada (Catalonia), Gran Canaria and the western coast of Cantabria.
Ribeira Sacra
For its part, the Ribeira Sacra is a perfect example of rural tourism at its best. With its imposing Sil canyons, terraced vineyards and ancient monastic heritage, this destination offers unforgettable experiences that combine nature, history and wine tourism. In its fight for the title, it competes with Olite and Zona Media (Navarra), Subbética Córdoba (Andalusia), Los Cameros (La Rioja) and Ciudad Rodrigo y Sierra de Francia (Salamanca).
Voting
These awards, organized by National Geographic Viajes magazine, are a unique opportunity to highlight Galician treasures and project them even further into the national tourism panorama. Therefore, all lovers of Galicia and its destinations are encouraged to vote and show their support.
Voting will be open until next February 16 on the magazine’s official website. It is time to show that both the Rías Baixas and the Ribeira Sacra have a special place in the hearts of all travelers. Make Galicia shine even more by voting for these unique destinations!
