Record number of visits to the Atlantic Islands National Park

  • More than half a million visits were received in 2023.
  • This data represents an increase of 5% compared to 2022.

The Xunta has made official the data on visits to the maritime-terrestrial National Park of the Atlantic Islands in 2023. Almost 515,000 visitors were registered, increasing in all the archipelagos, especially in the Cíes, with more 343,000 visits, two thirds of the total.

This increase in numbers, according to the Xunta, is due to “the good work of the companies and those responsible for the park, who have consolidated it as a reference natural destination for those seeking to connect with nature.”

It was also highlighted that the National Park as a whole offers a unique experience in a privileged space in the world, synonymous with quality and respect for the environment.

A total of 26 companies working in this space have renewed (13) or received (13) their accession to the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism, so they are committed to promoting quality, sustainable and responsible tourism. These accreditations are delivered by Europarc, and are intended for protected natural spaces committed to sustainable tourism.

Among the member companies are some nautical tourism, camping and guided tourism, which become ambassadors of sustainable tourism, since they satisfy the needs of visitors, companies and populations without harming the environment.
