Recognition for 15 Galician municipalities for their commitment to the environment and landscape

The Xunta awards Green Flags for good environmental practices, protection and conservation.

A total of 15 Galician municipalities can boast of their commitment to the environment and the landscape by flying the Green Flags that accredit this. The heads of all of them have just received from the hands of the Regional Minister for the Environment, Territory and Housing, Ángeles Vázquez, the insignias with which the Xunta rewards the efforts made by local administrations in this area since 2020.

A Laracha, Cervo, Muros, Ribadeo, Ribeira and Touro get this year for the first time the Green Flag and join a list that in the first year started with only two members and that in 2021 grew to 9: Alfoz, Curtis, Moaña, Mondoñedo, Ordes, Outeiro de Rei, Parada de Sil, Porto do Son and Sober. These flags aim, according to the Xunta, “to add and reflect the effort that local entities are making for the future of Galicia thanks to actions and good practices to organize the territory, protect the environment and the landscape, tackle climate change and improve energy efficiency.

The Xunta also explains that they intend these flags to become not only a symbol for local residents, but also for potential visitors, strengthening the image of those towns and villages that are most committed to environmental, landscape and natural areas. They can also become a promotional tool in the field of tourism with the power to attract visitors who value these aspects when choosing their destination.
