The Spanish tourism sector has closed 2024 with record employment figures, consolidating itself as one of the country’s main economic drivers. With 2.93 million employed workers, year-on-year growth has been 9.7%, reflecting a firm and sustained recovery, according to the most recent data from Turespaña.
The last quarter of the year has been especially positive, not only due to the increase in the number of workers, but also due to the improvement in the quality of employment. Employees in tourism activities have grown by 10.8%, reaching 83.4% of the total number of employees in the sector. A key fact is the increase in permanent contracts, which now represent 85.5%, reducing temporary contracts to 14.5%.
The Secretary of State for Tourism, Rosario Sánchez, has highlighted that these figures reflect a structural change that strengthens employment in the sector, improving the working conditions and salaries of workers.
By activities, the hospitality industry has grown by 9.2%, with a notable increase in accommodation and restaurant services. In addition, travel agencies have registered an increase of 20.1%, while passenger transport has experienced a growth of 11.4%.
With these data, Spanish tourism reaffirms its role as an economic and social engine, betting on a more stable and sustainable model that generates higher quality employment and security for workers.
