Employed workers in the Galician tourism sector increase by 16.1% in the fourth quarter of 2023

Employed workers in the tourism sector in Galicia increased during the fourth quarter of 2023 by 16.1%, reaching 128,371, according to data provided by Turespaña. This period, at the state level of tourism employment, Spain reached 2.67 million employed people, presenting an increase of 1.3% compared to the same period in 2022.

 

Between the months of October and December 2023, tourism-related activities registered 59,311 more employees than in the same quarter of the previous year. People employed in the tourism sector constitute 12.6% of total employment in the Spanish economy.

 

Active workers in tourism during the fourth quarter of the year exceeded three million, reaching 3,018,820, 2.1% more than the same period in 2022.

 

Regarding the unemployment rate, it stood at 11.3%, 0.2% less than the same quarter in the previous period. The percentage of unemployed over active women (12.2%) was higher than that of men (10.6%), although the gap between both was reduced in relation to the same period in the previous year, in which unemployment in women it was 12.8%.

 

In this fourth quarter, those employed in hospitality increased by 5%, mainly highlighting the positive evolution of food and beverage services (with an increase of 7.2%). In passenger transport, the interannual variation was also positive, with 1.6% more.

 

At a general level, in this last period of the year, the number of employed people grew in all the autonomous communities, except in Andalusia, the Valencian Community, the Basque Country, Castilla y León, La Rioja, Asturias and Navarra.
