Galician hotels increase their profitability by 7%

  • The hotel sector consolidates the increase in pre-pandemic values in summer.

Last July, Galician hotels and guesthouses experienced a notable increase in their profitability, with growth of more than 7% compared to the same month of the previous year. This increase is reflected in total nominal revenues of almost 58 million euros, a figure that marks a record in the historical series of the Galician hotel sector and exceeds last year’s data by 3.4%, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

The growth in profitability in Galician hotel establishments has not only consolidated the recovery of the sector after the pandemic, but has also allowed it to exceed the values of July 2019, when hotel revenues reached 43 million euros. This increase is largely due to the stability of tourism in the region and the notable growth in international demand, which has reached an all-time high with more than 290,000 hotel nights in July.

The provinces of Lugo and Ourense have been particularly notable in this increase in profitability, with increases in hotel demand of 6% and 4%, respectively. These positive data reflect the growing attraction of these areas for tourists, which has contributed to improving the economic figures of the sector.

In addition to the growth in profitability, the tourism sector in Galicia has recorded an increase in employment. In July, according to data from Turespaña, 1,437 new Social Security affiliates were added in activities related to tourism, which makes Galicia the eighth autonomous community with the greatest increase in absolute numbers at the national level.

These results highlight the strength of the Galician tourism sector, which continues to consolidate itself as a fundamental pillar of the regional economy, boosting both business profitability and job creation in the territory.
