The National Institute of Statistics (INE) has released data on travelers and nights spent in hotels and guesthouses registered in July.

Galicia welcomed more than 635,000 travelers who spent more than 1.3 million nights. This data represents a 3% increase in the number of travelers and a 3.3% increase in nights spent in these types of establishments. Economic data also grew by 10%, reaching €63.72 million, the highest figure in the historical series.

While we haven’t yet seen the data for other accommodation establishments (campsites, hostels, rural houses, etc.), it can be seen that, only in hotels and guesthouses, the first month of summer has been particularly positive, both quantitatively and qualitatively.

Galicia is above the Spanish average in July in terms of the number of travelers and nights. It is the sixth region with the highest growth, behind La Rioja, the Basque Country, Andalusia, the Canary Islands, and Catalonia in terms of the number of travelers, and fifth in terms of the number of nights, behind La Rioja, the Basque Country, Navarre, and Andalusia.

The Camino de Santiago also performed very well, with a 3% increase in the number of pilgrims. 41% of the pilgrims were foreigners, with the United States, Italy, Germany, Portugal, and Mexico leading the way.

Also worth noting is the growth of the Portuguese Coastal Way, with a 16% increase.
