Xunta and Agetan collaborate to consolidate Galicia as a nature and sports destination

The Galician Association of Active, Adventure and Nature Tourism Companies will design new products and activate its own booking space.

The Xunta de Galicia, represented by the First Vice-president and Regional Minister of Presidency, Justice and Tourism, Alfonso Rueda, and the Galician Association of Active, Adventure and Nature Tourism Companies (Agetan), an organisation chaired by José Luis Fernández Vázquez and part of the Galicia Tourism Cluster, have just signed a collaboration agreement to promote this sector and contribute to the consolidation of Galicia as a nature and sports destination.

The agreement provides for regional aid of 150,000 euros to launch more sustainable active tourism products with actions in the field of information, training and advice. This financial contribution will also allow for promotional activities and the activation of a booking space on the website www.turismoactivo.gal.

During the signing of the agreement, Alfonso Rueda explained that this type of tourism fits in with the safe, quality and sustainable tourism that the Xunta, the Galicia Tourism Cluster and the three Galician universities have established as the basis for the development model of the 2021-2021 Galicia Safe Destination Master Plan. The new agreement between the Xunta and Agetan also gives continuity to the collaboration already carried out last year in the framework of the Galicia Safe Destination programme.

This commitment to active tourism also aims to respond to the growing demand for experiences that combine sport, outdoors and nature by visitors as a result of the covid pandemic. Galicia has enormous potential in these areas, which can also be combined with other proposals, such as rural tourism, thermal tourism, nautical tourism, food and wine tourism and even the Way of St. James and the experience of the pilgrimage.
