The Xunta highlights that Galicia is the second destination in Green Spain with better tourist prospects for the end of the year

The Director of Tourism of Galicia, Nava Castro, participated in an international conference on the socio-economic impact of tourism in Galicia held in Santiago de Compostela, organised by the Economic and Social Council of Galicia (CES). In her speech, she highlighted the results of the latest Business Tourism Confidence Survey published by Exceltur, which confirmed the good expectations of the sector and highlighted the role of tourism in the development of local economies.

Tourism, which represents 11% of GDP and 12% of employment in Galicia, is going through a period of consolidation, said in her speech the director of Tourism of Galicia, who highlighted the good expectations by the sector for the end of the year. As indicated, the study places Galicia as the second destination in Green Spain with better tourist prospects by professionals for this last quarter of the year. In fact, 79.1% of Galician businessmen are optimistic about maintaining or improving results, above all other destinations in Green Spain, except the Basque Country. Specifically, the Galician community is the sixth in Spain with the best growth expectations, as 27.2 percent of entrepreneurs consulted expect the results to improve in the last months of the year. Galicia is behind Madrid, País Vasco, Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha and Murcia, but is the second in expectations of maintaining or improving results, only behind the Basque Country.

The participants in the day also knew the current regional tourism model, in which the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the sector work within the framework of the Tourism Strategy of Galicia 2020 that bets on consolidating a quiet, sustainable and quality tourism, which bets on its own best resources and makes use of authenticity. The results of the Socioeconomic Impact Study on the Santiago Trail, carried out by the University of Santiago de Compostela with the impulse of Culture and Tourism, a study that is becoming an important tool for decision making around the Xacobean Route and confirms its positive economic, demographic or cultural repercussion.

Along with this, and with an eye on Xacobeo 21, during the day also showed the importance that will have events like this for the Galician economy. In fact, it is already operational the program of fiscal benefits, which will remain in force until September 30, 2021 and is being implemented by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, through the Axencia de Turismo de Galicia. Thus, donations for Xacobeo 21 will involve tax relief of 40% on corporate income tax and up to 80% on personal income tax and will promote a wider scope for the promotion and organization of this event while impacting on the sustainability of the event.
