The Xunta will invest 146 million in tourism by 2025, with a focus on sustainability and modernization

  • The Tourism Sustainability Observatory will be launched, staff will be intensified and a focus will be placed on training and digitalization.

The director of Tourism of Galicia, Xosé Merelles, presented in Parliament last week the lines of action and the 2025 budget for his department, which amounts to more than 146 million euros. The Xunta will allocate these funds to the modernization of the sector, digitalization and sustainability. The initiatives aim to strengthen tourism planning, improve the distribution of visitors in the territory and promote sustainable economic activity.

Among the highlighted measures, the Tourism Sustainability Observatory will be launched, which will allow monitoring the destination and anticipating trends. In addition, new sensors will be installed on the Camino de Santiago and flow regulation systems will be implemented to manage the influx of tourists and ensure an optimal experience for both visitors and residents. The plan also includes strengthening inspection activity in all types of tourist activity.

Regarding digitalization, more than 2.5 million euros will be allocated to training and digital skills for professionals in the sector at the Higher Hospitality Center of Galicia. The internationalization of the destination will be promoted, with promotional initiatives in strategic markets such as the USA, Japan, Mexico and Brazil, in addition to participation in Expo 2025 in Osaka.

The Xunta will also expand accommodation capacity and support the tourist infrastructure of small municipalities, with aid of 2 million euros. To improve the experience on the Jacobean route, safe paths for pilgrims will be implemented in busy sections, shelters will be created and projects focused on accessibility and well-being on the Camino will be promoted. The 2025 budget thus reinforces the Xunta’s commitment to a sustainable and quality tourism model, adapted to the challenges of the Galicia 2030 Tourism Strategy.
