The Xunta has announced a package of specific measures to revive the destination’s image, stimulate demand, and compensate establishments that suffered cancellations.
The wave of wildfires recorded this summer in Galicia has had a severe impact on several municipalities, as well as on their tourism network. To mitigate these consequences, four lines of action will be implemented with a total budget of 3.6 million euros.
The first of these will be a promotional campaign in national markets with an investment of 2.6 million euros. Its objective is to strengthen Galicia’s image as a safe and attractive destination, highlighting its natural, culinary, and cultural resources. Alongside this, a micro-campaign will be launched focusing on the most affected municipalities to encourage travelers to choose their establishments and experiences.
In addition, a discount program of up to 85% will be introduced to promote overnight stays and activities in these areas. The initiative, developed with the Galician Association of Travel Agencies (Agavi), will also be disseminated through the Spanish travel agency network, expanding its reach nationwide.
In parallel, a line of aid will be launched for accommodations that suffered cancellations in August, with contributions of up to €2,500 per establishment based on proven losses. Direct assistance offices located in various locations will offer specialized advice to businesses.
Finally, the plan is complemented by two initiatives already underway: the Gastronomic Autumn program, which combines rural accommodation and traditional menus in 80 rural tourism establishments, and the #DiscoverGaliciaInAutono Tourist Voucher, which more than 16,000 beneficiaries will be able to use between September 15 and December 25.
This set of measures seeks to boost tourism activity during the low season and support the most affected regions, promoting their economic recovery and strengthening their attractiveness to visitors.
