The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) explores options for collaboration with Galician marinas

With the aim of establishing stable ways of collaboration, the Consellería de Mar, Portos de Galicia and the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) held a meeting in Galicia to deepen the Galician nautical activity

The RYA, the association of British sailors, brings together 150,000 members in nearly 60 countries around the world and is interested in opening channels of collaboration with the Galician marinas, addressing the possibility of exchange of sailors between other ports of the various countries associated with the RYA and the marinas of the Galician coast. They also addressed the possibility of opening up markets for cruise ships and mega-yachts in the facilities that allow it.

Another of the issues that were put on the table was the importance of simplifying certain procedures that British sailors have to complete when they come to Galicia in order to facilitate their navigation. This suggestion made by the RYA during the meeting will be forwarded by the Xunta to the Ministry of Development, on which the Maritime Capitanías depend.

The possibility for Anglo-Saxon sailors to leave their boats in Galician ports during the winter and to have access to certain services and the production of information material on culture, gastronomy and tourism in the surroundings of the ports were other issues proposed by the RYA at the meeting. Some aspects, that the Xunta agreed to transfer to the nautical sector.

The president of the RYA travelled to Galicia this week the root of the contact made with the president of Portos de Galicia, José Juan Durán, during the celebration of the London Boat Show last January. The president of the RYA, Sarah Treseder, showed her interest in visiting the Galician nautical facilities and coordinating possible ways of collaboration.

During his stay in Galicia, Treseder plans to visit, among other facilities, the marinas of Marina Davila, in Vigo; Monte Real Club de Yates de Baiona; Club Náutico Boiro, Real Club Náutico de Portosín; Marina Arousa, in Vilagarcía; and the Club Náutico de San Vicente del Mar in O Grove. In addition to holding meetings with representatives of the main nautical associations of Galicia and port operators oriented to the business of recreational boating.
