Hotel profitability grows 15% in the month of March

  • Holy Week contributed to the consolidation of the Galician hotel sector.

The recent Easter season has consolidated the upward trend in hotel profitability, with a 15% growth recorded during the month of March. According to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), this improvement is reflected in the increase in total income, reaching 21.9 million euros, 23% more than in the same period of the previous year. This increase also exceeds pre-pandemic values, with a turnover close to 16 million euros.

 

Regarding the flow of travelers, the Galician hotel sector has experienced positive behavior, with nearly 305,000 travelers and more than 562,000 nights stayed in hotels and guesthouses during the month of March. This increase represents the third consecutive year of growth in demand for this period in Galicia.

 

The Galician community is positioned in a prominent place in terms of growth, with one of the largest increases nationwide. With a 22% increase in hotel demand, it exceeds the average for Spain as a whole by three points. In terms of volume, it is in eighth position nationally, being the first destination in the north of the peninsula.

 

The national market represents 78% of hotel nights in Galicia. Practically, one of every two nights in Galicia’s hotels and guesthouses corresponded to Spaniards who came from outside the community. On the other hand, domestic tourism, made up of residents of Galicia, absorbs 30% of the nights, while the remaining 22% corresponds to international tourism.
