Spain takes a firm step towards the digitalization of tourism with the creation of the Intelligent Destination Platform (PID), an innovative technological tool promoted by Segittur, an organization dependent on the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism. This infrastructure seeks to optimize the management of tourist destinations, promote sustainability and encourage collaboration between destinations, companies and tourists.
The PID makes it possible to collect, analyze and share data on tourist behavior and resource use. This approach facilitates more efficient strategic planning, reducing environmental impact and improving the experience for both visitors and residents.
One of the main objectives is to integrate 501 destinations and 25,000 small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) in its first phase, democratizing access to advanced digital tools. SMEs will be able to benefit from data such as tourist flow forecasts, which will allow them to adapt their offer and optimize their resources in real time.
Additionally, the platform will help combat saturation in critical destinations through the use of advanced technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and real-time data analysis. This will allow the tourist influx to be redistributed, promoting balanced and sustainable development.
With a scalable and standardized design, based on UNE standards, the PID aims to position Spain as a world leader in tourism innovation. Its collaborative and sustainable approach promises to transform the tourism industry, addressing the sector’s challenges with cutting-edge technological solutions.
