Vigo’s hotel and catering industry joins the #PorElClima platform

The Provincial Federation of Hotel and Catering Businesses of Pontevedra promotes the initiative developed by Ecoedes, Coca Cola and Hotel and Catering of Spain.

 

More than 60 establishments in Vigo have joined this campaign that advocates the fight against climate change by increasing the sustainability of the sector and reducing its emissions.

 

On 1 December, the facilities of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo hosted the presentation in Vigo of Hostelería #PorElClima, a nationwide platform created in 2017 on the initiative of Ecodes with the support of Coca Cola and the collaboration of Hotel and Catering of Spain to raise awareness in the sector about the need to fight climate change and promote the adoption of measures to improve its sustainability. It currently brings together almost 3,700 establishments from all over the country.

 

Just over 60 are from Vigo, as was made clear at the event held to raise awareness of the campaign developed in the area thanks to the collaboration of the Provincial Federation of Hotel and Catering Businesses of Pontevedra. The president of this entity, César Sánchez-Ballesteros, also secretary of the Galicia Tourism Cluster, was one of the protagonists of the event and in his speech he claimed the role of the sector in this fight for sustainability and against climate change: “The hospitality industry has to assert its important social weight, since the impact of the direct actions that can be carried out by the hospitality establishments in Vigo, in addition to the multiplier effect that the visualisation of these small actions can have on the thousands of customers who visit the hospitality establishments every day”.

 

Pablo Barrenechea, Director of Climate Action at Ecodes; María Troncoso, Manager of Sustainability, Public Affairs and Communication at Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Iberia, and Nuria Rodríguez, Councillor for the Environment and Healthy Living in Vigo, also spoke at the event, which took stock of the implementation of the platform in the city.

 

They explained that 51 of the establishments that have already joined the platform in Vigo have participated in a questionnaire on aspects such as water saving, energy efficiency, sustainable mobility, carbon footprint, responsible consumption and correct waste management, which has shown their interest in saving, efficiency and recycling, as well as their commitment to working with local suppliers.
