Companies, administrations, organisations and individuals can join the “Transition Pathway for Tourism” until the end of the month.
Companies and stakeholders in the tourism sector, administrations, public and private entities, NGOs, tourists and other citizens are invited to join the Transition Pathway for Tourism promoted by the European Commission to achieve a more resilient, sustainable and digital activity. To achieve this involvement, a survey of commitments has been enabled on the website of this European body through which participants can express which measures they will implement from a total of 27 different options in areas such as digitisation, sustainable mobility, online information, equality or green transition.
This call is the result of a process launched in March 2020 to help the EU’s different industrial sectors to lead the green and digital transformations and boost Europe’s global competitiveness. Tourism, having been the hardest hit by the covid pandemic, was the first to initiate this transition path by involving the public and private sector in more than thirty workshops and meetings. This first phase, which began in June last year, identified in a report those 27 areas prior to measurement of the green and digital transition that will now need to be implemented by the sector. The need for more circular and environmentally friendly tourism services, the exchange of data for more innovative activity and the improvement of accessibility are some of the issues raised.
The current accession process will be open until the end of May and both the list of participants and their commitments will be published on the website of the Directorate General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG Grow) and on the forthcoming stakeholder collaboration platform for the tourism sector that will be launched later this year.
