Galicia exceeds 8 million tourists in 2024 and reinforces its internationalization

  • International tourism now represents 30% of the total, with a notable increase in visitors from the US and Italy.

Galicia closed 2024 with record numbers in the tourism sector, reaching 8.2 million visitors, according to data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). Of them, nearly 7.3 million stayed in hotel and non-hotel establishments.

The growth in both the volume of travelers and the quality of the tourist offer stands out, with an increase in hotel profitability and in the average spending of international visitors, which is around 170 euros, 14.3% more than in 2023.

Foreign tourism continues to gain weight in the community, representing 30% of the total. The increases in the arrival of travelers from the United States (+22.1%), Italy (+11.8%) and Germany (+5%) stand out, consolidating the destination’s internationalization strategy.

More overnight stays and greater stability in the sector

2024 also marked a new record in overnight stays, with more than 13.6 million nights recorded, which is 115,000 more than in 2023. In addition, tourism growth continues to advance in deseasonalization, with significant increases in traditionally less crowded months, such as May (+11.1%) and November (+12.2%).

In economic terms, the profitability of the Galician hotel sector experienced a growth of 6.7%, reaching total income of 432 million euros. This dynamism is also reflected in employment, with a 3.1% increase in Social Security affiliations and an improvement in job stability, with temporary employment rates at historic lows.

These data confirm the positive trend of tourism in Galicia, which not only attracts more visitors each year, but also advances in its diversification and sustainability, generating an increasingly solid economic and employment impact.
