Madrid was the setting where Galicia reaffirmed its position as a sustainable tourism benchmark. In the third edition of the awards given by Viajar magazine, Galicia was awarded as the “Sustainable Destination of the Year”. The director of Tourism of Galicia, Xosé Merelles, was in charge of collecting the recognition during an event held at the Ritz Hotel, highlighting the community’s commitment to a sustainable and authentic tourism model.
Sustainability is one of the tourist pillars of Galicia. A strategic approach that seeks to consolidate the region as a destination that respects its natural and cultural environment, while reinforcing its attractiveness for visitors.
In the delivery, Merelles highlighted the good moment that Galician tourism is going through, which continues to grow at a rate higher than the national average. According to recent data from the INE, in November Galicia experienced an increase of 11.2% in registered nights, and a 10.8% increase in travelers staying.
This award consolidates Galicia as an example of sustainable tourism and reinforces its international projection as a unique place to enjoy responsible and authentic experiences.
