Galicia occupies sixth place in the ranking of passenger ratings in the annual study of Tripadvisor

The travel portal shows that the Canary Islands, La Rioja, Andalusia, Asturias, Extremadura and the Balearic Islands are the Spanish regions with the highest ratings.

The restaurants in the Canary Islands, Balearic Islands and Andalusia are the best rated among TripAdvisor travelers.

The annual study carried out by TripAdvisor on the average valuations obtained by Spanish establishments in 2018 shows an excellent image of the health of the tourism sector in Spain, indicating the best valued regions, as well as the scores obtained by Spanish hotels, restaurants and places of interest in each of the autonomous communities and provinces. “The scores obtained by Spain in 2018 show that our country is a highly desired destination for travelers, both foreign and local. The Spanish gastronomy, the quality of our accommodations and the extensive list of tourist attractions that our country offers are the main attractions for travelers from around the world,” says Blanca Zayas, Head of Communication TripAdvisor in Spain.

Spain’s overall rating as a tourist destination in 2018 continues to be excellent. As in 2017, our country has obtained an average of 4.14 over 5, according to the scores given by travelers in TripAdvisor, having increased over the past few years, from 4.12 over 5 in 2012. At the regional level, the Canary Islands and La Rioja -which climbed three places over the previous year- are the best rated in Spain, with the country’s highest score in 2018 (4.26). It is followed by Andalusia (4.24), Asturias (4.23), Extremadura (4.22) and the Balearic Islands (4.21), while Galicia occupies sixth place with an overall rating of 4.20. In accommodation, Galicians obtained a score of 4.13, while in places of interest it rose to 4.45 points. Finally, restaurants obtained a much lower score, barely 4.01 although in the general average of Spain.

Places of tourist interest get the highest figures

At state level, tourist attractions, with an average score of 4.38 out of 5, were the best rated in Spain. With regard to accommodation and restaurants, TripAdvisor travellers gave an average rating of 4.02 and 4.03 out of 5, respectively.

By region, Asturias and La Rioja (4.16), Comunidad de Madrid (4.14), Andalusia and Navarra (4.13) and the Canary Islands (4.11) top the rankings for the best rated hotels in Spain. Regarding places of interest, those in Asturias are the most popular, with a score of 4.49 out of 5. It is followed by Extremadura, Castilla y León, Andalucía, País Vasco and Aragón. On the other hand, TripAdvisor travelers have rated the Canary Islands as the highest rated gastronomic region (4.24), followed by the Balearic Islands, Andalusia, La Rioja, Catalonia and Valencia.
