In 2024, Galicia will assume the coordination of the tourism brand of the northern peninsula, also known as Green Spain. The Galician Community will take the lead in an event that will take place during the International Tourism Fair 2024 (FITUR), in January.
The announcement was made at the meeting held on December 20 in Vitoria-Gasteiz, in which the different communities that are part of Green Spain participated: Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria and Euskadi, and which included the participation of the director of the Galician Tourism Agency, Xosé Merelles, in addition to those responsible for Tourism in the remaining communities.
During the event, an assessment was also made of the various promotional actions carried out in 2023, such as the different familiarization trips in which the Camino de Santiago, the cities, cultural and natural heritage and food and wine focused the spotlight. These experiences allowed more than 60 tourism industry professionals to learn first-hand about the destinations and tourism products of each territory.
Green Spain defines the territory located in the north of Spain in which “the intense green merges with the deep blue that is torn between the Atlantic Ocean and the Cantabrian Sea.” An area of great landscape, gastronomic, heritage and cultural wealth.
Among the most immediate projects that this brand addresses is the Green Spain Ecotourism Corridor, financed with Next Generation funds and of which all communities are part. This is the largest ecotourism corridor in Europe, a project that represents an opportunity for the four territories to advance a sustainable tourism model from a social and environmental point of view, with experiences in natural spaces and new services.
