Galicia gains importance in the Network of Smarts Tourist Destinations

A dozen Galician municipalities and three associations of municipalities have just joined the statewide entity.

Galicia is already the third autonomous community with more municipalities and entities integrated in the Network of Smart Tourist Destinations that was launched in 2018 by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism. At the last meeting of its executive committee, the incorporation of 42 new destinations was approved, including eleven Galician municipalities and three associations of municipalities also made up of local councils from this community. These are specifically the municipalities of Vigo, Arzúa, Melide, Monterroso, O Pino, Palas de Rei, Paradela, Pedrafita do Cebreiro, Portomarín, Samos and Sarria and the associations of Galician municipalities of the French Way, O Salnés and the Ría de Arousa Zona Norte.

With these new incorporations, there are now 22 Galician tourist destinations that form part of this nationwide network, the same as Castilla y León, with Galicia being only surpassed by the Canary Islands (with 23) and Andalusia (with 56).

The Network of Smart Tourist Destinations was created with the aim of promoting the conversion of Spanish tourist destinations into smart destinations; fostering public-public and public-private collaboration in the development of products, services and actions; contributing to guaranteeing Spain’s leadership in tourist intelligence and guaranteeing the quality and evolution of the project, encouraging innovation and technology and promoting synergies and knowledge transfer.
