During the International Tourism Fair, Fitur, the event was held in which the transfer of power between the Basque Country and Galicia was made official, which this year assumes the annual coordination of the tourism brand ‘Green Spain‘. Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria and the Basque Country are part of this. This initiative arose with the purpose of advancing hand in hand with ecotourism and sustainability in the different territories of the northern peninsula.
The manager of Tourism of Galicia, Antonio Casas, and the counselor of Tourism, Commerce and Consumption of the Basque Government, Javier Hurtado, participated in the handover ceremony, as well as counselors from other communities. The Galician representative pointed out that Galicia’s intention in 2024 is to “continue betting on Green Spain to continue making destinations strong.”
The actions for this year include promotional actions for the markets of New York, London, Berlin, Vienna, Zurich, Milan, Rome and Paris, among many others, and also a special action to promote the gastronomy of these autonomies in Lisbon. In addition, Galicia will promote the Camino de Santiago as a differentiating element that provides the backbone of the four communities that make up the brand.
The most notable for 2024 will be the design of the Green Spain Ecotourism Corridor, financed with Next Generation funds. This is a route that crosses the main places of special natural interest in the four communities. Several protected natural spaces collaborate in this initiative, as well as companies linked to wildlife observation, active tourism and accommodation. Its objective is to create the largest ecotourism corridor in Europe.
