Galicia celebrates a historic milestone in the tourism sector by exceeding, for the first time, 12.4 million overnight stays in establishments in the community during the first ten months of 2024. According to data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), This growth represents 66,000 additional nights compared to the same period last year, reaffirming Galicia’s position as a booming tourist destination.
International tourism continues to gain prominence, representing 31% of total overnight stays, with an increase of 3.8% compared to the previous year. This segment reached a historical record of almost 3.9 million nights in Galician accommodation in the first ten months of the year. In addition, the average daily expenditure of the international traveler stood at more than 110 euros, 16.9% more than in 2023, boosting hotel profitability levels, which grew by 7%.
October, an outstanding month
The month of October also left outstanding results, with more than 1.1 million overnight stays, 19.5% more than pre-pandemic levels in 2019. During this month, 657,287 travelers visited Galicia, of which 39% were international, consolidating a growth of 6% compared to September. Of the travelers, 82% stayed in the hotel segment, including hotels and guesthouses, while 18% opted for non-hotel accommodations such as tourist apartments, campsites, rural tourism and hostels.
These results confirm the strength of tourism in Galicia, aligning with the strategy to consolidate the community as an attractive destination for both national and international travelers.
