Galicia reaches historic figures in tourism and internationalization in 2024

  • International tourism grows, consolidating a weight of 31%.
  • The Camino de Santiago closes the year with almost half a million compostelas issued.

 

2024 closed as a record year for Galician tourism, consolidating its international appeal and deseasonalizing its offer. According to data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), between January and November, nearly 7 million travelers stayed in Galicia, accumulating more than 13 million nights in accommodation, both figures at historic highs.

 

International tourism continues to gain ground, representing 31% of total demand and exceeding 4 million overnight stays in this segment for the first time, which represents an increase of 4.4%. This growth is also reflected in rural houses, where the presence of international travelers increased by a notable 21.4%.

 

Furthermore, the deseasonalization of tourism shows positive results with notable increases in months such as March (+26.4%, thanks to Easter) and November (+12.2%).

 

In economic terms, hotel profitability grew by 7.1% compared to the previous year, reaching 413 million euros in accumulated income until November, even exceeding pre-pandemic levels.

 

On the other hand, the Camino de Santiago closed 2024 with record numbers, approaching 500,000 compostelas issued, 12% more than in 2023. This phenomenon continues to attract an increasingly international profile: 58% of pilgrims come from abroad, being The United States, Italy and Germany are the main countries of origin.

 

Galicia reaffirms its position as a global and diverse tourist destination, capable of attracting visitors throughout the year, combining tradition, culture and nature.
