The Galician Tourism Sustainability Observatory continues to advance in the development of a system of indicators that will allow evaluating the impact of tourism and guiding strategic decision-making towards a more sustainable model. The working group, made up of more than twenty entities (including public administrations, universities, professionals and sector representatives), met recently to define the key factors that will serve as a basis for the future diagnosis of Galician tourism. Manuel Veloso, of the Technical Secretariat of the Cluster, is present at this summer appointment.
The objective is to have a tool capable of monitoring tourist flows, analyzing the carrying capacity of the territory and measuring the evolution of sustainability in different areas, from the management of natural resources to mobility or the quality of services. These data will allow us to improve planning, anticipate trends and promote innovation in tourism management.
The director of Tourism of Galicia, Xosé Merelles, participated in highlighting the value of the Observatory as “an essential tool to design public policies based on data and advance toward a more balanced, competitive and respectful tourism around the world.”
Created in November 2024, the Observatory has a work calendar until the end of 2026 and aspires to become a benchmark in sustainable tourism management, promoting cooperation between institutions and the private sector.
In addition to measuring the environmental and social performance of tourism, the Observatory seeks to integrate intelligent tourism criteria, promoting digitalization, city participation and territorial cohesion.
