Turespaña’s new microsite praises the Camino de Santiago as an example of eco-friendly travel

  • The oldest pilgrimage route in Europe is one of the alternatives that the web portal highlights with the aim of positioning Spain as a sustainable tourist destination.

Turespaña has launched a microsite dedicated to promoting sustainable tourism in Spain, where the Camino de Santiago stands out as one of the oldest and most ecological pilgrimage routes in Europe. The platform is integrated into the Spain.info portal and is available in English, French, German and Italian, with the aim of consolidating Spain as a responsible tourist destination internationally.

Through this new digital tool, Turespaña invites travelers to explore the Camino de Santiago as a low environmental impact option. The experience, rich in history and culture, includes everything from waste reduction tips to green transportation recommendations and sustainable accommodations along the route.

The microsite also offers suggestions for authentic immersion in local communities and the natural environment, with special emphasis on sustainable practices such as the use of renewable energy sources in accommodation and the promotion of biodiversity. In addition, the site offers resources for carrying out environmentally friendly activities and raises visitor awareness about the importance of protecting landscapes and heritage at each stage of the Camino.

This portal is part of the Turespaña Strategic Marketing Plan 2021-2024, aimed at promoting responsible and sustainable tourism in the country. As a complementary measure, Turespaña is promoting a series of international marketing and awareness initiatives, such as the Spain.Talks meetings, which seek to promote sustainable tourism in cities such as London, Paris and New York.

The microsite is available at the link https://sustainability.spain.info/ and it is expected that this new resource will inspire tourists to opt for responsible and conscious experiences, consolidating Spain as a global benchmark in sustainable tourism.
