The central government allocates €35 million to recover the assets of the Paradores of Galicia

  • Investment in Galician inns will enable them to improve their offer, adapting it to the demands of current tourism.

The Secretary of State for Tourism, Rosana Morillo, has highlighted the importance of the central government’s investment in the rehabilitation of the heritage linked to the Paradores, with an allocation of more than 35 million euros for Galicia. This commitment focuses on the restoration of heritage and the improvement of environmental sustainability in six Paradores establishments in the region, as part of the Paradores Strategic Plan 2023-2026 and the Restoration Plan for Assets of Cultural Interest (BIC) financed by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.

Currently, rehabilitation works are already being carried out on the BIC at the Hostal de los Reyes Católicos, in Santiago de Compostela. For this establishment, the Government reserves €22.7 million for improvement actions, of which the first €10.5 million are already being implemented. The rehabilitation project began in the Royal Chapel, with the aim of eliminating the humidity that has damaged the ornamentation and guaranteeing the optimal conservation of the limestone. Now, the action at this inn also includes the restoration of the facades of Praza do Obradoiro and San Francisco Street, improving humidity problems.

In addition to Santiago, other Paradores in Galicia will also receive significant investments, such as Baiona (8.1 million euros), Monforte (more than 1.5 million), Santo Estevo (1.47 million), Vilalba (1.14 million) and Ferrol (169,000 euros). These improvements will not only contribute to the conservation of heritage, but will also adapt the tourism offer to current demands, promoting the sustainability and resilience of the sector.
