International tourist spending will reach €59,000 million this summer

  • According to the forecasts of the Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, 13% more international tourists are expected to arrive during the summer season.

Spain is preparing for a historic summer in terms of international tourism, with forecasts pointing to spending of more than 59 billion euros by foreign visitors. This increase represents a growth of 22% compared to last year, according to data provided by Turespaña, based on time series models.

 

The Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, communicated these forecasts during his visit to the headquarters of the State Society for the Management of Innovation and Tourism Technologies (SEGITTUR) last Thursday, July 11. Hereu highlighted that Spain expects to receive 41 million international tourists during the months of June to September, an increase of 13% compared to the same period of the previous year.

 

The minister underlined the importance of tourism as an economic engine, highlighting that the increase in tourist spending reinforces Spain’s leadership in the sector and contributes significantly to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and employment. In addition, he emphasized the need to continue developing a sustainable and inclusive tourism model that not only preserves destinations, but also improves the quality of life of both workers in the sector and local residents.

 

The minister also addressed the relevance of the social, environmental and economic sustainability of tourism. “Tourism is a generator of quality employment and its impact benefits the Spanish economy as a whole,” he explained.

 

Boost for the digitalization of the tourism sector

 

In the context of his visit to SEGITTUR, Hereu announced that 327 projects have been selected to receive almost 70 million euros in aid from the second call for the “Last Mile” program, part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan financed by the funds. With regard to Galicia, and by province, a total of seven A Coruña companies will benefit with 817,625 euros; A company from Lugo will receive 130,000 euros and another nine companies from the province of Pontevedra will benefit from 1,178,039 euros.
