  • The program already has 700 participating establishments, and applications to join are still open.

The President of the Xunta de Galicia, Alfonso Rueda, along with the Regional Minister of Social Policy and Equality, Fabiola García, presented the Carné +65 on March 28th, an initiative that offers those over 65 exclusive discounts and benefits at a wide network of establishments.

The event was also attended by the President and Vice President of the Galician Tourism Cluster, Cesáreo Pardal and Jesús Picallo Santos, who highlighted the importance of this proposal for the Galician tourism sector. The Cluster representatives were accompanied by Treasurer Alfonso Martínez, former President Francisco González, and Board Member Mar Rodríguez Meseguer.

During his speech, Cesáreo Pardal highlighted the key role of tourism in the well-being of seniors, noting that the 65+ Card “is not only a practical tool, but a form of recognition for those who have dedicated their lives to building our communities.” He also encouraged businesses in the sector to join the program, emphasizing that their participation contributes to both economic development and social impact.

The 65+ Card has already been sent to more than 600,000 people and can be used in 700 establishments throughout Galicia, a number that the Xunta hopes to expand to 1,000 throughout the year. This program seeks to facilitate seniors’ access to cultural, leisure, and wellness services, as well as combat unwanted loneliness and eliminate stereotypes associated with age.

For its part, the Galician tourism sector supports the initiative as an opportunity to strengthen Galicia’s inclusive and accessible approach as a destination. “Each establishment that joins this program is contributing not only to the growth of the sector, but also to the inclusion and well-being of our seniors,” Pardal said.
