Last Monday, June 5, the inauguration of what will be the first public hostel in Ferrol took place. The president of the Galician Tourism Cluster, Cesáreo Pardal, attended an event that was also attended by the president of the Xunta de Galicia, Alfonso Rueda, the elected mayor of Ferrol, José Manuel Rey Varela, and the president of the Authority Ferrol Port, Francisco Barea, among other authorities.
The hostel will promote the Camino Inglés among pilgrims heading to Compostela. This Jacobean route is the fourth most used, just behind the French Way and the two Portuguese variants. It is estimated that the property, located in the old Casa del Mar inn in Ferrol, will start operating next July, already prepared for the summer season.
With this incorporation, the Galician public network already has 76 reception centers for pilgrims, of which 7 are located on the Camino Inglés itself. In this way, the new Ferrol complex will become the property with the greatest capacity on the route, with up to 60 spaces enabled.
The Camino de Santiago is one of the strongholds of Galician tourism, a benchmark for sustainable and family tourism. To continue promoting the xacobean routes as a tourist experience for youth, the Xunta de Galicia will launch next July the Xacobeo Xove Voucher, an initiative in which the Galician Tourism Cluster also collaborates.
